Cluster Power Electronics
in Bavaria

The role of power electronics is the conversion of one form of electrical energy into another form needed for a specific application as efficiently as possible, as well as the control of the power flow. Thus it is a key technology for growth industries in the areas of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and the automotive sector. Approximately 545 companies and institutes with roughly 110,000 jobs in Bavaria are directly involved in research and development, production, sales, and services in the field of power electronics.

Power electronics is one of 17 high-tech industries supported by the cluster programme of the Bavarian State Government.

Bavarian Power Electronics Cluster

The Bavarian Cluster Power Electronics within the ECPE e.V. organizes specialist events, initiates and accompanies cooperation and research projects, sponsors joint trade fair participation, and executes qualification measures, as well as recruitment measures for secondary education students, teachers, and university students.

In 2016 we started our internationalization efforts by cooperating with Japan in the field of wide-bandgap power electronics, including two research projects IsoGap and SiC-DCBreaker.

While the cooperation with Japan continues after the conclusion of the joint research projects in 2021, the Cluster embarks on a new international effort together with 4 other European Clusters in the “European Sustainable Energy Cluster partnership for Africa” (ESECA).
